There are many reason due to which your webcam is not detected by computer. You have to check these options.

1. Which version of software you have, Try to use XP version of software.

2. Is your computer shows up in Device manager, to go to your device manager click on my computer icon on desktop go to properties and then Device manager. Check there under webcam check that your webcam is shown or not.

3. The third way to check your webcam when you connect your webcam does your computer shown "found new hardware" option or not. If your computer show the found new hardware option and do not detect your webcam then go to Google and download a driver for your webcam and install it will start working.

If Windows cannot add your device automatically upon plugging in, use the Add Hardware in the Control Panel.

  1. Plug your webcam on your computer.
  2. Click Start, then Control Panel.
  3. Click Printers and Other Hardware. On the left side under See Also, click on Add Hardware.
  4. A dialog box will pop up, click Next. The Add Hardware Wizard will then detect the installed devices on your computer.
  5. Under Have you already connected this hardware to your computer, choose Yes, I have already connected the hardware. Then click Next.
  6. On the next window you will see the list of installed hardware on your computer. See if your webcam is listed, click it, and then hit Next. If your webcam is not on the list, click the Add a new hardware device found at the bottom.
  7. Follow the succeeding steps.

If on the other hand you still can’t install your webcam, maybe it’s not really functioning. Try replacing it.

As long as it's plugged into a USB port directly connected to the motherboard (it may not work properly when plugged into an external hub or into a front port on a desktop case), the software is installed for it properly according to the directions that came with it, and it's cord hasn't been damaged, you should have no problems with it.

The software is installed for it properly according to the directions that came with it.

Usually you DO NOT plug in a more sophisticated USB connected device such as a webcam, printer, or scanner, until AFTER you have installed at least some of the software for it.

DO NOT use Found New Hardware to install drivers for a new device unless the installation directions tell you to do that.

In most cases, if you install drivers that way, the device, or it's associated software, or both, will not work correctly.
