Hello,

I am getting this unknown error message using Windows Media Player. I really don’t know the cause of this problem. I just started to play a file it threw this dialog message. I am looking for assistance to fix this issue but I could not find anything. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Luke, your problem appears to be that the versions of registry entries for Windows Media Player do not match with the actual file versions of the program. This usually happens when you're upgrading your Media Player and something goes wrong, leaving registry entries as they are, while changing the files. To fix this, first shut down all processes of Windows Media Player (using Task Manager). Then,

1. Go to Start – Programs – Accessories – Command Prompt

2. Type UNREGMP2.EXE /UPDATEWMPVERSION.

3. Run Windows Media Player as you normally would.
