Hi,

I have 64 bit version of windows7 and windows  vista but my web camera cannot run or install under any of them. My web camera is specified as vista-compatible. So why cannot i install or run it?

Hello Lark.

I have to admit that it is a bit misleading when a device is labelled "Vista compatible" and we somehow expect it to work on Windows 7 as well.  I've been in the same situation as you.  I had a Buffalo webcam that was certified Vista compatible.  However, when I went to the manufacturer's site and searched for an updated driver, showed that it was compatible with the 32-bit version of Windows Vista.  I am sure that the problem is that your webcam has 32-bit drivers only.

You can fix your problem by going to the manufacturer's website and downloading a 64-bit driver for it.  Take note however that it is possible that your webcam is really limited to 32-bit only and there is no way a 64-bit driver can be developed for it.  In that case, your only option would be to switch to a 32-bit variant of Windows or buy a new webcam that is compatible with 64-bit Windows.

Hope this helps!
