I am planning to buy Visio 2007, before doing that I’m just curious if my Visio stencils from Visio 2003 will work with Visio 2007.

Currently I have a lot of stencils in my Visio 2003.

Hello John Griesham,

Don’t be curios. Your stencils will work in Visio 2007. Visio 2007 is the upgraded version of Visio it includes all the functionalities which Visio 2003 had. These thinks are only represented in a better way in Visio 2007.

New version of any software’s includes all the functionalities of previous one and more new functionalities.

Unlike other Microsoft Office applications that support backward compatibility, with Microsoft Visio, opening a drawing that was created with an older or newer version of Microsoft Visio might display some problems with how the drawing looks and works. To help you with some of these problems, you can use Compatibility Mode. Another way is to save the drawing in the older version’s format.

When you open a document or drawing that was created in an older version of Microsoft Visio, the file opens in Compatibility Mode by default. This mode allows you to open, edit, and save drawings that were created in an earlier version of the application by turning off or disabling features of Microsoft Visio that would cause problems in earlier versions.

There are two ways to start Compatibility Mode. First is to open a document that was created in an earlier version of Microsoft Visio. This will open the document or drawing in Compatibility Mode automatically. Second method to start Compatibility Mode is to save your current drawing in an earlier file format. After saving the document, the document is now in Compatibility Mode.

To stop running Compatibility Mode, save your document in one of the new file formats. Another is to convert your document to the new format. To convert, in Microsoft Visio, click “File,” “Info,” and then “Convert.” Conversion will only work while the document in the earlier file format is open.
