Hi,

I have installed Xvid 1.22, when I open an Xvid encoded .avi with virtualdub 1.9.5 x64 in windows 7 x64 rtm

I get the following error message.

Any idea how I can fix this?

VirtualDub requires a video for Windows (VWF) compatible codec to decompress video

Virtual Dub Error

Couldn’t locate decompressor for format ‘XVID’ (unknown)

Hi there Timothy D Washington,

In order to make VirtualDub work you will need a proper codec pack. Sure, Windows come with a codec pack, but the provided codecs are not suitable for applications like VirtualDub.

In order to make things work you should visit the download section of Xvid.com (https://www.xvid.com/download/) and download the codec pack made for your OS.

Once you've downloaded the package, just run it and the wizard will do the rest. I would suggest you to restart your computer after the codecs are installed.

Hope this helped,
Drake Vivian

Hello,

The error you mentioned is generated because of the missing codec in your player. These errors always occur cause of the missing codec. I think you need to download the missing codecs, but try these steps.

Follow these steps:

1) Click start, all programs, ffdshow, VFW configuration.

2) You will find Decoder tab at the top, click it.

3) Scroll down to xvid and set it to libavcodec.

4) Apply the setting and close the VFW config.

Hope this helps you out
