I am using Virtual Dub for video capturing / re processing for the past some months.

For some videos that are playable on my pc (shows that my pc has the required codecs installed), virtual dub displays the error

VirtualDub Error

Virtual Dub error

Video compression error: The source image format is not acceptable.

(error core – 2)

This error starts to occur when I choose Save As AVI in this software. Do some workaround exists for this error as there is no problem playing these files. The error only arrives while trying to convert them into AVI format. My laptop is core i3 with 3 GB ram and 500 GB hard disk. I am using windows 7 home premium as an operating system.

Hey, I'm Mikki

The error you are getting with VirtualDub can be caused by various factors, and there are various ways to try and fix them. You can try doing these possible fixed to try and fix your problem:

  1. This error usually can be easily fixed by installing DivX 5.X, If you’re using DivX 6.X, there is an existing issue with it on Gordian Knot so I suggest switching to DivX 5.X.
  2. Another solution you can try is to modify a value in your registry, if the above did not work. Go to Start then Run, and type in regedit. Registry Editor should open, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionDrivers32. From there, look for VIDC.YV12, double click and Modify; change its value from xvid.dll or divx.dll.
