Virtual Box installer error message on Windows 7

I have recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate on one of my work machines. I wanted to install VirtualBox-3.1.2-56127-Win.exe on my recently upgraded machine.

I go to the install files and run it and get the following error message:

Virtual Box Installer – Installation of MSI failed – Error: 1603

Checked on Internet that there could be a few reasons for this “1603 “ and performed the following

  1. Gave the user Full control permissions over the folder and files.
  2. Made sure that the disk has enough space.
  3. The drive that I am trying to install is a physical drive.

But nothing seems to work.  Should I not be installing it on my Windows 7?

Hi Darreljacob,

For your network the easiest would be to use  NAT and don't forget to use the Intel PRO/1000 MT adapter. I think you should start with 1024 Meg because that Window likes to see standard memory location. You need to allocate your Virtual disk  by changing 60 GB to 30 GB. As for games you need, it is more than likely that you will not get them to work because virtual Box only supports OpenGL at moment and is still experimental. Regards.

Hello Darrel,

Are you sure, you completely downloaded Virtual Box without any interruptions? How about downloading it again from their website.  Mine here is Perfectly working fine without any issues.  In addition Virtual Box is a really good application in having a Virtual Operating System.

Just follow the Wizard and configure your Virtual OS in an easy way. Upon Creation, Virtual Box saves your  virtual OS configuration and system files  in only A single file in .vdi Format. So its really easy for you to remove it from your system, just by Deleting a single File. Thanks for reading. Regards.
