Is there a way to view an Android phone's content over a wireless network? Just like when viewing a lapotop shared document over a wireless network.

Yes, why not.

The WiFi File explorer just uses your Android device's Wi-Fi link to connect with the other wireless networks.

For creating a connection you just have to create a small Web server on the network that allows you to look through your files from whichever other computer connected on the network just like pc to pc or laptops.

So, you just go to your Android phone, create a network input a IP address as well as port number, just like 192.152.1.55:8000, and then you have to create another server to the other phone by giving the following next IP to it.

The application has an option for password protection, which should be enabled by default.
