View Adobe Acrobat documents (.PDF) within Firefox 6.0.2 browser

I have Firefox version 6.0.2 as the default browser on my computer. Whenever I click on a hyperlink to an Adobe Acrobat document (PDF) online, Acrobat Reader 9 launches and opens up the document. This is annoying sometimes, especially when I already have too many application windows open and it slows down my computer.

I can view PDF files within Internet Explorer 7 when I use it to open the link, but I'm more comfortable with Firefox as my browser. How can I enable Firefox to open an online PDF document within itself, rather than through launching the Adobe Acrobat Reader application?

It is quite easy to do. Just follow the given steps in Firefox.

1. Open Firefox and in menu bar, click on tools.

2. Now select options.

3. Select the application panel here.

4. Find PDF in the list and click on it. Click on drop down arrow and choose a Use PDF reader name (in Firefox).

5. Now click ok to close.

You can also do this from your PDF reader:

1. Open adobe reader and open its preferences.

2. Now click on the internet.

3. Check the box labeled display PDF in browser.

4. Close reader and open Firefox and enjoy using it.

Hello Mark,

To be able to open an online PDF document within Firefox itself, you will need to install a PDF plugin for Firefox. For example, the PDF Browser Plugin will work for that, and it will also make it possible to open a PDF in the browser without downloading it.

To help you do that, you will need to follow the steps below:

  • Open your Firefox browser and then click on Tools, and then click on Add Ons.
  • In the window that will open, you will need to type "PDF Browser Plugin" without quotes in the search box.
  • Choose the suitable option from the list and then install it.
  • After that you should be able to open your online PDF documents without an issue.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Carl
