Can people have access to my external hard drive when I connect to the internet? If so, how do I prevent them from accessing my hard drive? Will activating my operating system firewall prevent the external hard drive from being infected with virus from the internet? Can I put a password on an external hard drive to stop illegal access whiles surfing the net?

Hello,

External Hard Drive is quite similar to pendrive. Unlike pendrive, the disk space is larger and the life cycle is even longer than a pendrive. Pendrive uses flash storage where external HDD uses the powerful internal HDD’s technology.

There’s no chance of anyone seeing the content on your external HDD. However, if your PC is infected with viruses or malwares, the developer of the nasty program is probably on the data. To be safe, you should keep any good internet security software installed. I’d like to recommend to have any of these: Norton, Kaspersky, Avira, AVG etc. They provide a good internet security from any hacker/tracker.
