USB stick problem, Doesn’t show in my computer

Hello! All,

I am using ESET NOD 32 version 4 as an Antivirus for my laptop. I am very satisified by this software, it had never let me down yet. I had been using it for about two (2) years now. Just recently at school, my classmates passed around a USB Stick that contained our project on a school subject.

When I plugged the stick, my laptop detected the USB stick but it was not present in the "My Computer" folder. I couldn't access it. I plugged and unplugged the USB but nothing worked, still my laptop detects the USB but not present in  "My Computer".

Before that ESET detected a virus in that USB,then I just clicked "Ok" without reading the content of the notification. And now I have a problem with it.

How can I fix this problem?

Please provide me answers ASAP.

Hi Gwen,

For your problem, you must confirm first if the USB was really detected by your computer. Go to Start > right click My Computer > Manage > Under Storage go to Disk Management.
Then check what’s the drive letter assigns for your USB which might conflict with your other drives.

A. Try to change it by doing these (please see attachment as well).

1. Right-click on the Drive > select Change Drive Letter and Paths > select Change > under Assign the following Drive Letter > then choose any letter which is not currently used. It’s better to start from letter Z going backwards (example Z, Y, X, etc).
2. Close the Disk Management window then go to My Computer and check your USB.

B. You may check as well in Disk Management window if your USB has been detected. Once open, go to Device Manager > click Disk Drives. There you should see your USB with its model.

C. Try to run a full Antivirus scan on your computer. Malware can interfere with USB drive functionality

D. If your USB is not present on the Disk Management, then you should try to download the driver of your USB. You can search it on the internet or sometimes it is included.

Please let me know if this works.

Thanks,

Larry.

This always works for me, especially if you are using XP.

Start->Run and type “diskmgmt.msc” then right-click the drive and select “Change drive letter and Paths” and change the drive letter to something completely different like T: or W:.

Give it a try.
