USB device not recognized in Windows XP

I have 4 USB ports in my system, 2 in front side and 2 in back side. But the USB ports in front side are not working.

A message pops up saying that 

One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it.

Please any one give me solution of this problem.

Hello there,

There are lots of causes with regards to your problem. Before going to troubleshooting, please make sure your there is no problem regarding your device. Most of the time, the image you shown above, is caused by a your own device. There might be something wrong with your device. Try plugging in your device in other computers, if your device works on other computers then probably your computer's USB hub is the one malfunctioning.


Troubleshooting:

Solution: Using Device Manager

1. Click Start.

2. Click Run.

3. Type Devmgmt.msc, and then click OK. The Device Manager window opens.

4. Click to select your computer as the location for the scan.

5. On the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes. 

6. When your device is recognized already. Close the Device Manager window.


Solution: Restart Computer  

  1. Try to restart your computer.
  2. Plug in your device when Windows XP is already.


NOTE: If your device is still not working properly then the probable problem is with your device.

In order to resolve this issue, there are two options:

Option 01

  1. Disconnect USB devices, except Keyboard & Mouse.
  2. Got to Run and type “DEVMGMT.MSC”AND PRESS “OK”.
  3. As you can see in the diagram displayed, select “Universal Bus Controllers” in the bottom.
  4. Select each one, right click and uninstall each.
  5. Restart your machine and this will enable to reinstall your USB ports.
  6. Connect your devices again and you will be able to enhance your problem.

Or

Option 02 (Note: Applicable for only Windows 07)

  1. Select “System” in control panel.
  2. Click on “Device Manager” & select USB Devices.
  3. Right click the port which is highlighted and select uninstall.
  4. Before restarting the machine, check all the required USB devices are connected.
  5. After restarting the machine log on to Internet Explorer and your machine will recognize your USB devices automatically.

Solution:

1. Click "Start" on task bar, select my computer or locate my computer on desktop. right click on it, click properties.

2. Under system properties window, go to "Hardware". click device manager.
 
3. Under device manager window, find "Universal Serial Bus Controller". If there is an exclamatory symbol over the
USB icon, right click on it and click update driver. Make sure that you have an internet connection, because through
Internet connection, it will automatically update or locate the driver from the internet. just wait a little while.
If you do not have an internet connection, you may use url USB Driver or USB Installer and insert it to cd rom.
 
4. If it still not working try to check your Date and Time, and change it into present Date and Time.
How to change your Date and Time? Follow also this steps.
4.1. Click "Start".
4.2. Go to "Control Panel".
4.3. Under the Control Panel Window, click on "Date, and Time".
4.4. Under the Date and Time Window, you can now change it the right date and time by highlighting fields and type the right date and time or by pressing the dropdown list.
4.5. If you are done changing it. Do the number "3" instruction".
 
5. Finally your finished.
 
6. Re-start your computer.

USB device not recognized in Windows XP

Hi dear,

This is a very common problem. This indicates that your front USB ports are not connected well with the motherboard.

If you open the case of your computer, you will see that a connecting wire with 10 Pins is connecting to the motherboard to the USB ports.

Just check that cable, and check that you are using the correct device, because some older computers do not detect devices over 8 GB on the front ports.
