There are different technical designs between Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers so they display web pages in a different way. Also, there are W3C standards and IE those work differently. Firefox and Mozilla and Opera have opted to obey the W3C standards so page rendering differences between all these browsers and IE are to be expected.

There are basically the functional differences among the browsers. For instance, Firefox does not allow ActiveX or Browser Helper Objects (BHOs) which makes Firefox safer. Also, any alternate browser will not support a web site that uses client side VBScript. I do not say the list of websites which use this however, JavaScript for client side scripting seems to have monopolized the market.
