I've been playing spore for a couple of months. Recently when I started the game I unexpectedly got an error: "Spore has detected an error…" I have the spore with the genuine expansion. Anyone encountered similar problems like this? Any suggestions on how to fix it? Thanks.

To resolve that issue with the Spore game, you will need to do the following

  • You will need to click Tools on the Menu Bar and then select Folder Options.
  • But if you are using windows vista, there may not be a menu bar shown and therefore you will need to highlight the Layout and then click Menu Bar.
  • After that you will click the view tab.
  • And then go to the advanced settings box, and then go to the Files and Folders menu that is under the Hidden files and folders menu.
  • There you will need to click the button next to Show hidden files and folders.
  • Save the changes.

Hello Carson,

You will need to ensure that you have the latest graphics drivers as well as DirectX installed  on your computer. If you have not installed there check them here:

http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/4723.page , but before that try this: http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/4706.page#42185, as well as this:

http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/6125.page#59516

You will need to rename the Spore directory to SporeBackup. If you are using Windows XP, you will need to go to Documents and Settings(Username)Application DataSPORE. But if your OS is Windows 7/Vista, you will need to go to
Users(Username)AppDataRoamingSPORE

Note that the directory Application Data directory may be hidden, so you will need to display hidden files by doing the following:

  • In the menu Tools, click on Folder Options and then View
  • After that check "Show Hidden Files and Folders" and then save the changes.

Regards,

Carl
