Hi expert friends,

When I try to update windows in my computer, it throws me an error message. This error stopped me from going further in update process. It’s an individual PC not connected with network. No clue in the error message, anyone else has faced this kind of error message before? I don’t understand what is going on exactly. Very badly I need help. Thanks.

From the looks of it, it seems that you are using a standard non-administrator account which doesn’t have any rights to update anything on the computer including updating of the operating system and installing applications. Standard or limited user account in Microsoft Windows doesn’t have the privilege to install anything, with the exception to programs that don’t require global changes.

If you are not the administrator of the computer or you are not using an administrator account, you need to ask someone with administrator account on the computer to update the operating system for you. If you are the administrator, try restarting the computer and try again. The error maybe only temporary.

Also, make sure the Windows Automatic Updates is not turned off otherwise you need to turn it on to update Microsoft Windows XP. To check it and to activate it as well, click Start, Control Panel, Security Center, and click Automatic Updates located below. See image.

On the next screen, make sure Automatic Updates is not set to “Turn off Automatic Updates” or else you won’t be able to update your operating system. You can set Automatic Updates to either “Automatic [recommended]”, “Download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them”, or “Notify me but don’t automatically download or install them”.
