Unable to simulate an oscillator circuit with the use of transient

Hello,

I'm a new user to Cadence. I am attempting to simulate an oscillator circuit with the use of transient, but the simulation doesn't converge. I thought, I could reduce the size of the circuit to solve the problem, see picture below.

The simulation just crashes after a couple of fs in the simulation using default parameters. It then takes an age to run until eventually, it crashes (moderate option).

Any help you may have will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Unable to simulate an oscillator circuit with the use of transient

Hello Linalou,

Many Oscillators can be very difficult to start simulations, and Cadence is not an exceptional. One thing you should be sure of is that the circuit in the simulation model does not contain any mistake for that may be a cause for it to stop working.

The usual starting point of the simulation is the DC working point, and it is not guaranteed that it will give a result that favors the oscillator circuits to start. In some instances, problems in oscillating the simulation may be a clue that it is not reliable or it may indicate a bias problem.

To resolve this problem, you may choose to skip the bias point analysis at the beginning,  or you may set a single or many initial conditions or just give a pulse to start the oscillator when it is powered up.

Regards,

Carl
