Unable to receive external emails in Exchange

We recently moved to MS Exchange under a new ISP. We still have our old static IP address so we have two. I do not have enough experience with MS Exchange and I really need help on configuring it correctly. I entered the new static IP address data into our firewall and router which enabled us to access the internet. However, we cannot receive external emails. The internal email is working properly such as sending and receiving mails. I checked and re-checked MS Exchange properties and could not find anything wrong. Can someone help me on this? Thanks.

The problem as to why you cannot receive external mails using ms exchange on your server is probably because of the following reasons:

  • The internet connectivity has some problem.
  • The telnet session is not active.

The workaround to these problems will be as follows:

  • Check your internet connectivity and make sure that you can be able to connect to the internet. Try using ping in the command line to check the status of internet connection as follows: Ping www.google.co.ke. In case there is a delay in sending and receiving packets then you will need to restart the router to refresh the network connections.
  • Try connecting the telnet session using 62.3.254.77 with the port as 25 to check if it is active.

You will need to reboot the computer in case the telnet session is not active, and then you will do the following:

  • Go to exchange server manager
  • Click on server properties and then click on the general tab.
  • Check the 'enable tracking option' and then save the changes.

It should work after that.
