Hi Pro experts,

After the successful installation and upgrade of Microsoft Word in the computer, I ended up with an error message. I am not able to open a document because of this error. The error says it has a problem with its contents. In addition, it says that the name in the end tag of element must match the element type in the start tag. How do I fix this error? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Unable to open Microsoft Word for a problem with its contents

Hello,

This error is being fixed in the latest version of MS Office 2010 SP1. You have to update your software to the latest version so that you can open the document easily.

Download MS Office 2010 SP2. Depending on your software architecture and system, you can get the 32-bit or 64-bit updater from here.

Also, Microsoft provides some small tools that allows users to fix certain issues easily with several steps. Here is the Microsoft Fixit for this trouble. Download and run.

Also, such error appears if you have incorrect tags inside your document.

For example, here is an incorrect tag:

<mc:AlternateContent>

<mc:Choice Requires=”wps”>

<m:oMath>

</mc:AlternateContent>

</m:oMath>

The correct one should be:

<m:oMath>

<mc:AlternateContent>

<mc:Choice Requires=”wps”>

</mc:AlternateContent>

</m:oMath>

You can use Notepad or other text editor to edit the XML file.

Now your problem should have disappeared.
