Hello Iris,

I have read your concern regarding Windows 7 file opening. As what you are saying, it seems to be a good sign that there is no virus involved in it. When an “open with” window pops up and asks you to what program you wanted to open the file with, it only ask you the mere question. The only thing you can do is select to what type of program you will be using for the file. For example, in a “.doc” file, you can select from various programs installed in your computer, it can be either “Microsoft Word” “Open Office” “Note Pad” “Word Pad” or other various programs applicable to the file. After selecting the program, you can enjoy and modify the file you have opened.

By the way, you are seeing this window because you might not have changed the default Program opening for a specific file. I hope I am in the right track of understanding your concern and give you a hand to fix the problem.

I hope this information is of good help.

Regards,

Mali

Hello Iris,

I doubt if that is a virus. The open with window might be popping up because the file was saved in a format which is not supported by any application on your computer, and then you will need to choose a format that you will want to open the file with using the following procedure:

  • When the "Open With" pop up window comes up, choose a program from the list that you think can be able to open that file.
  • If the program is not on that list, you will need to browse its location on your computer, for instance on the desktop or in the program files.

That should enable you to open that file without a problem.

Regards,

Carl
