Hi,

Whenever I try to open Windows Explorer or try to start Internet Explorer it just closes and it is happening repeatedly. Already I have scanned (up-to date virus signature) my computer to detect the viruses but have got nothing. Can anyone help? Need your help to solve this. Thanks in advance.

Dear Rebecca Griffin,

If your Internet Explorer opens and closes immediately, this happens because internet Explorer version you have is corrupted. To resolve this issue, try the following method:

"Reset Internet Explorer to default settings":

  • Close Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.
  • Click "Start" button and the "Control Panel.
  • In "Control Panel" go to "Internet Options" tab, in the "Advanced" tab click "Reset".
  • When finished, "Close" and "OK".

Now, try to reopen IE and if you got any other problem, try the other methods explained in this page by Microsoft Support:

About Windows Explorer, I need to know your Windows version and whether you get an error message or nor and please a print screen of the error you got.

Hope this may help you.

Best of luck.

I am really not sure why it is happening to your computer. I have never experienced that before. If you are using an AVG antivirus you may want to replace it. I am not saying that it is not a good scanner. It really is a good scanner. It is very good in detecting and removing viruses but the only problem is, it is stuck there.

The process stuck on detecting and removing but it is not a good blocker. We are also using that in our office before and it just kept on detecting and removing a virus every now and then. But when we replaced it with a different brand, the network became quite stable including the workstations.

Try using Norton Internet Security 2012 so you will have a much secure operating system. If you decide to install Norton Internet Security 2012, update it after the installation and then run a full system scan on your computer. You can download it at:

You may also want to check your computer for any possible errors. Use a disk utility application to check the system.

For a much thorough diagnostics on the system, use a disk utility application like PC Tools Performance Toolkit or Norton SystemWorks.

Thank you very much Tibor.tokie. I did what you said and reset my Internet Explorer. I also checked the link that you gave. Your solution really helped because I was able to use Internet Explorer after that. I also noted Sharath's advise on changing my anti-virus. Thank you.

Many thanks TechyV.
