Unable to install Series 8 Chipset after Windows 8.1 Update

I just upgraded my Windows to 8.1 but did not upgrade BIOS yet. My screen is dim and I am thinking this is because of the 8.1 update or maybe an issue with the Sony and Intel software. I am also receiving the error below when trying to install the Series 8 chipset driver.

Intel Rapid Storage Technology

Failure

The setup program ended prematurely because of the following error:

This platform is not supported.

It doesn't work even if I go to Intel website and download from them directly. How can I fix it?

I think you are confused. Your BIOS, even if you upgrade it or not, has nothing to do with the error. Because you upgraded your operating system to Microsoft Windows 8.1, the Intel software that comes with your laptop is no longer compatible with it. I wish you first check if your Intel chipset software will still work when you upgrade your operating system to Microsoft Windows 8.1.

Try downloading the latest chipset version that supports Microsoft Windows 8.1 from Intel Chipset Device Software. This latest chipset version supports Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, x86 or x64 Windows 7, x86 or x64 Windows 8, and x86 or x64 Windows 8.1. If this chipset version doesn’t support or is incompatible with your computer, try using the Intel Driver Update Utility.

It can be used to detect the devices installed on your computer and shows relevant driver updates. When you use this, you need to install Adobe Flash Player ActiveX and or Java Runtime Environment [JRE] to make it work and you need to use Microsoft Internet Explorer because it will not work on other web browser.
