I have upgraded my Ubuntu to Ubuntu 11.04 version Natty Narwhal on my VMware Workstation 7.1.3. Earlier version of Ubuntu was working perfectly suddenly it stopped working and keeps throwing the error when I try to compile the modules with the latest Kernel: I got the attached error:

Unable to build kernel modules.

VMware Kenel Module Updater

Error
Unable to build kernel modules.
See log file/tmp/vmware-root/setup-7357.log for details.

Ubuntu 11.04 VMware Workstation 7.1.3 error

I have tracked the log that is setup-7357.log to fix it

believe the above problem is not restricted to Ubuntu 11.04 but will be to most Linux which are running kernel 2.6.38-8-generic or later, so it will be applicable for all.

Hello,

I would like to help you on this one, but I would want to keep it simple, simple meaning that we won't need to go through the troubleshooting of errors which mostly turns out to be a nightmare, so frustrating.I am familiar with the kind of error you encountered and I promise you that the easiest and most straight forward way of handling this is by formartting your machine and reinstalling back the Operating system. To do this , you need to first back up all the important files an external drive is most convinient. After ensuring all files are backed up, insert your copy of  Ubuntu Operating system (ensure the disk is at good state 'no scratches') then shut down or restart the machine and choose the install fresh copy.

if this fails try to get help from https://www.ubuntu.com/support

Hope it works for you.
