When I run Windows Update I get an error Windows Update Client failed to detect with error 0x800b0001. I have rebooted my system plenty of times, but nothing worked. How can I fix this issue?

Solution 1: This error indicates that you have not installed KB2720211 in your WSUS server.
Solution 2: Disable the Antivirus application and then check.
Solution 3: Run a System File Checker Scan.
(i) Start–> All Programs –>Accessories–>Command Prompt –>Run as Administrator.
(ii) Type the password and then click "Allow".
(iii) Type sfc/scannow and press enter.
