Totem Video Player needs an XVID MPEG Decoder

Hi all,

I switched to using Totem as my video player for watching movies. But when I tried to play a movie, I can only hear the sounds from the movie but there is no video showing on my screen. It is telling me to install an XVID Decoder but I couldn't find any add-ons for it. Does anyone here know about where to download the decoder?

Thanks in advance

Hello William,

The Totem software pop-up, telling you to install xvid decoder is malicious.

What I suggest instead is uninstall the Totem Software you have.

Perhaps that software was injected with malicious scripts that can harm your system.

What I recommend you to do is download the well known VLC media player. It is safe and it is free.

It can play almost all types of video formats.

Try downloading and installing VLC now. Here is the link.

You may also consider downloading this great media player software.

  1. iTunes 11.0.4 for Windows XP Vista or Windows 7
  2. QuickTime 7.7.4 for Windows XP Windows Vista or Windows 7
  3. Media Player Classic – Home Cinema

Happy viewing.
