Toshiba MK8032GAX problem with Hard Disk Detection

I was confused on my new Toshiba MK8032GAX. I am sure that it has 80GB Hard Disk drive. But my computer just detected 30GB instead of 80GB. What might be the problem? Is it my computer or the hard drive that I just bought?

Hi,

Your hard drive may already have files in it causing your computer to report only 30GB of free space. Try checking if there are a lot of install programs and files already installed in your computer.

It is also very likely that the 80GB has been divided to at least 2 partitions where the operating system only has 30GB of space and that is what the computer is detecting. Check your Disk Management utility to verify this. If this is the case and you’d like to make use of all of the available space on the entire hard drive, format the hard drive and delete all the partitions and just use only one partition for your system.

Thank you. Hope this helps with your current predicament.
