The Toshiba corporation just bought the International Business Machines Corporation's (IBM) point of sale system for $850 million dollars. The deal should have been closed by now since they reported the deal is to be closed by the end of the year. It is possible that Toshiba and IBM will be doing more business since Toshiba is focused on hardware and IBM is focused on software. They can collaborate since it's a perfect partnership.

Back in April 2012, IBM announced that Toshiba will be acquiring their RSS business or Retail Store Solutions business which offers retail point-of-sale solutions worldwide. The agreed amount for the acquisition is roughly around US$ 850 million or JPY 68 billion. Toshiba TEC would become the world’s leading retail point-of-sale systems company upon completing the transaction offering hardware, software, and integrated in-store solutions.

The transaction will also mean teaming up with IBM in bringing the Smarter Commerce experience to retailers and customers around the world. Toshiba TEC will enter into a multi-year agreement with IBM as part of the transaction where Toshiba TEC will become an IBM Premier Business Partner for Smarter Commerce. Upon completion of the deal, Toshiba TEC is expected to acquire the worldwide overall business operation functions of RSS.

The transaction is expected to close in the end of the second quarter of 2012 or early in the third quarter of the same year. Toshiba TEC is a subsidiary of Toshiba Corporation.
