I have located a lot of .dll files on my PC and they are vital part of the system. How can I open a .dll file? I want to see the contents of a .dll without which a application cannot work. For example, Banished requires VideoDX-11.dll in order to run. Can I modify the .dll file for any other applications?

Dll stands for Dynamic Link Library. It is a collection of executable files or functions. Such .dll file is used to run programs and there are few ways to open the it, to see its entire characteristics, but the opening is restricted by the people who know such files very well. We can change the .dll file for the use of other applications by a proper method.

Follow theses 4 easy steps to open .dll file:

1) We have generally no need to open these files at all. So first of all evaluate your need.

2) Double click on the desired file and click on 'open with' box

3) Check box 'Use the Web Service to find the correct program' and click ok
Windows will automatically find the best application to open .dll file.

Another option is to right click on your file and select 'Edit with Notepad++' open notepad and press 'CTRL+O' to see your .dll file.
