Hello Rebecca,

To repair the fonts in windows XP, you will need to perform a repair installation or upgrade of Windows XP. When you do that, all existing restore points will be removed and a new system checkpoint restore point will be created after the in-place upgrade is completed. You will need to have the original Windows XP CD with XP Product key.

Regards,

Nicke

Every file has its own properties and specific format. So it may be difficult to open correctly with other programs. Here fonts are not fact. If you think so, then download the fonts (in which font the document was created) again or collect from other PC and paste those into your computer.

If it does not work then check properties of the document and file format. Then install that specific software or use a file converter. It will clear to you that an excel file created in office 2007 will show meaningless character in office 2003 though the fonts are same in the computer.
