Hello,

I am using wired broadband internet via a local internet service provider. I recently bought a laptop and supplied all the required IP addresses, DNS and alternate DNS for internet settings to it. But whenever I try to connect internet, it shows an error message as Windows-System Error.

.IP address Conflict

The message says, the IP address of your system conflicts with the IP address of another system in the network. Can anyone tell me how to tackle this problem?

Many thanks!

Hello MastermindQ.

Please verify with your ISP what the correct IP address for your account is. It seems you have been assigned a static IP but someone else used that same IP address on their machine. Instead of using the static IP address, you could try setting up DHCP.

When DHCP is enabled, your machine will access a DHCP server which will assign an available IP address to you. I am not sure though if DHCP is enabled on their network so the real solution is to contact your ISP support and report the IP address conflict because it should not happen if you are a regular paying subscriber.

Hi,

Here you did not mention that your Laptop connected to your local LAN or connect directly to the ISP connection.

If it is directly connected with ISP cable then please check with ISP people.

If you connect your laptop to local LAN then please shut down your laptop and sit another computer and follow as below procedure to track out the conflicted IP address.

Click start then click RUN and write here cmd and hit enter. A new black window will come. Write here below command.

C: tracert 192.168.1.9 (your conflicted IP will be here) and press enter. See the picture.

Use this command for finding out the destination computer name so that easily you can find the user.

Hope everything is clear.

Hi,

It's not really a big problem. This IP address is already used /using by another computer. that is why you are getting the IP conflict error message. The IP addresses are given against a specific Mac address (network interface card's unique address provided by the card manufacturer maintaining some specific protocol).

Now you are trying it to your new laptop which is not on the Internet Service Provider's server. You can contact with them. Hope that your problem will be solved.

IP Address conflicts incur on two computers under the same network. Or if the internet assigned two identical IP addresses. This is because of the following:

1. The system administrator assigns two PCs on the LAN with the same address.

2. The system administrator assigns a PC with a static IP from the DHCP range and both addresses was automatically assigned by the local DHCP server.

3. Failing network's DHCP server.

4. Your ISP has assigned to customers with the same IP.

To fix this, perform a Repair on your network so the IP can be renewed. Right click on the network connectivity icon and click on repair. As shown in this picture.
