Hi there! Can any of you teach me how to install Windows 7 and Windows XP on my laptop? I’ll be working for Sun Life Financial and I need my laptop to run Windows XP since it’s what the company use. The thing is what I have right now is Windows 7. I just need to know if there’s a way for me to split my hard drive so that when my laptop boots, I’ll be able to choose between Windows 7 and Windows XP. I don’t want to uninstall my Windows 7 because I’m using it for personal reasons and I don’t have an installer CD either so reinstalling it is not really an option right now. Can you give me suggestions on how I could do this? Thank you very much.

Hi Norma,

Definitely there is a way with your problem. You may install Windows XP to your laptop without deleting the existing OS. But CD for installing Windows XP is really needed. Upon installing, choose the Custom install option, and then install to a different partition than your existing Windows 7 installation.

To delete and create partitions, boot your system with the Windows XP install disc, this approach gives you additional options for creating and deleting (but not resizing) partitions. After you install Windows XP, the operating system's boot menu will give you the option of booting either XP or your previous Windows version.

Install Windows XP in Dual Boot with Pre-Installed Windows 7

or you may try using windows XP mode

Install and use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7

I hope i was able to help you a bit.

You need to go to your Windows 7 computer's Disk Management utility. You should be able to find your hard drive there and it may only have one partition right now. You need to Shrink your current partition, let's say to AT LEAST 100GB. This will reduce your Windows 7 operating system's space allocation to the size you choose. This will create unused space in your hard drive, a second partition. Just right click on the partition and create a new volume on it equal to the total size of that partition and have it formatted. After that, shut your computer down, insert your Windows XP media and boot to your optical drive. You will then boot into the Windows XP installation. Just install Windows XP into the second partition that you created and you will then have dual booting capability on that computer.

Hello Dear,

Installing windows xp and windows 7 is very easy. It is installed in the same way on laptop as you install it on any desktop pc.

First you have to take a great care of versions of windows that you want to install. Means that the latest version of windows should be installed at the end.

First install windows xp. Make sure that you are installing windows xp and windows 7 on different partitions.

When windows xp installation completes then start the setup of windows 7.

And choose different disk drive during this installation, so that both of windows will work properly.

No crashing among files will take place.

Thanks

Happy computing
