Hi Akeshbabu,

Windows 7 version has the easiest way to identify if the type of network location changed because it has auto-display and has pop-up when this occurs.

But here are the steps to change the network location type;

  • Log on to Network.
  • Go to Network and Sharing Center, Click Customize and either choose Public or Private.
  • Click next and Close.

The accessibility of the network you have selected depends on how your firewall has been set on what function should work and not. It has features that let you change the firewall configuration on how Public and Private Network should do.

Private Network has risk because you are setting your computer to allow open communication while Public Network will give you full access of your computer.

To identify the Network Location Type Windows XP should have similar steps mention above.

  • Click Start, Control Panel, Network Connections then View Network Status.
