It might mainly be display hardware conflicts with your software.

This may stem from incompatibility issues between your hardware (display unit) and Windows Vista. Check that you have installed the latest VGA drivers or downloaded them to be up-to-date from the appropriate manufacturer website. Once done, restart your PC for changes.

If it persists… Personalize and configure your Screensaver and Display Settings from the desktop or the Control Panel.

Right-click on any clear space on the desktop to get you the ‘Appearance and Personalization’ window.

On the Screensaver option, personalize and check mainly on power management and on the Display Settings, check on Advanced Settings for your graphics card.

This is very unusual since the screensaver is built-in with the operating system and is not a third-party software. If the problem you are having is from the operating system’s default screensaver program then there must be something wrong with your computer. Try checking your computer for any possible errors. Use a disk utility application to check the system. Or simply use Windows disk check to check your system’s files and folders for any errors.

  • Open Windows Explorer then right click on drive C and then select Properties.
  • Go to Tools tab, click on the Check Now button then hit Start.

Wait for it to finish then restart your computer. After booting, do a test by running your screensaver then see if your machine will do a restart again. If you are using third-party screensaver software and not Windows’ default screensaver then the problem could be from the software itself. Try uninstalling and then reinstalling it to see if there is a change.
