Hey guys,

Help me here.

I have never used Microsoft products before and recently I got a new project and so I had to install SQL Server 2005 on my machine for the professional development of Windows XP. I downloaded the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and SQL server management studio express from the Microsoft site. Before installing update my windows SP3, which then began the installation of the SQL server that actually went all the routine controls and began installing, but half of the installation that displays an error that says;

 “Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup

An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package ‘sqlncli.msi’.”

I clicked OK and my installation is rolled back. I have tried several times and is not installed. I am running out of time for my project! Please help.

Dear Salma,

First of all MS SQL Server 2005 is not a bug free/error free software. My suggestion is that you should use MS SQL Server 2000 or 2008 instead of 2005 on a server machine.

Secondly, this problem occurred when you tried to install SQL Server software on a client machine. Run setup file and carefully read all instructions and first make your machine a server for using this software. If you wish to use this software on your own system then download MS SQL Personal. This can support server and client both.

Take Care,
Paul.

You can check the following points why your SQL 2005 is not running on XP:

  • First you need a SQL Server to complete your task because server is used to store data.
  • Check the minimum system requirements for your package.
  • Check the server is joined with active directory domain.
  • Check that all software package is complete in this case. SQL also requires .NET for process so check it also.
  • Check for virus and remove it from your PC.

After taking these steps there are some other easy steps to install SQL server and the wizard for download will help you a lot with it. See step by step process and you will be able to install it.
