Hello experts,

In a small office we had our previous server is Windows Small Business Server 2003(SBS 2003). We are trying to have a migration in our data to new Windows Small Business Server 2008 because some of its new feature is really needed in our database program. Going back, after a full installation, configuring network address, and some configuration of this new server, we launched the DCPROMO in SBS 2003 and got a message box Active Directory Domain Services Installation Wizard. We try to isolate the said trouble in physical network connection but no luck. Please help us with this error encounter. Your good ideas are really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Error receive:

Active Directory Domain Services Installation Wizard

The operation failed because:

A domain controller could not be contacted for the domain testenv, local that contained an account for this computer. Makethe computer a member of a workgroup then rejoin the domain before retrying the promotion.

Hello Limjoco,

Since you upgrade to the new Windows Server 2008, it seems like the domain and workgroup settings for the particular computer were affected and therefore you will need to reconfigure them.

Just right click on My Computer and then choose system properties. In the window that opens you will be required to look for the domain and workgroup settings and then  change them to suit those that you are using on the entire network. You will be needed to restart the computer for the settings to take effect.

See if that helps you solve your problem.
