Hi. First of all, plug your headphones into your Laptop's jack and check whether the sound is coming out or not. If you can hear the sound is still coming from your Laptop, then assuming there is a hardware problem, you will need to take your laptop to service center.

Otherwise you might be having software or driver installation problem. Please install your Audio Driver and restart your laptop. If you have your Sound driver's CD with you, you can easily install them, otherwise you can download the driver from manufacturer's website of your soundcard.

It may solve your problem.

If the sound problem that you are experiencing is from a laptop, make sure that you installed the right driver for your soundcard. Installing the wrong driver for your soundcard will sometimes create a muffled sound coming from the soundcard.

Since you are using a laptop, I’m sure your machine comes with a disc that contains most of its installers. Insert the disc that comes with your laptop on to your CD/DVD drive and browse its contents.

Check if it contains only one kind of installer for your soundcard. If the contents of the disc show several soundcard installers, then it is possible that you installed the wrong driver.

If you don’t know the brand of the soundcard in your laptop then might as well try installing each of the drivers. Uninstall your soundcard’s driver then try installing one of the drivers on the disc. If it still doesn’t work, uninstall it again then try the other one.

You may also try checking your computer for any possible errors. Use a disk utility application to check the system.
