Sound not working in my Windows 8 laptop

Hi there,

My problem is related to the sound of my Windows 8 laptop. It is not working at all. I can't hear any sounds except when I connect an external headphones or speakers. The audio works just fine when it is connected. I am guessing that the reason why this issue started is when I plugged my headphones before and maybe I accidentally screwed on the audio port. I checked on all the drivers but it was all working properly. Can anybody help me?

Hi Leona,

Try to use the Troubleshoot audio playback. Here are the steps:

1. Click Start button.

2. Click Control Panel.

3. Click Troubleshooting (or just type troubleshooting in search box).

4. Click Hardware and Sounds.

5. Click Troubleshoot audio playback.

If the problem still occurs, you could also try downloading an update for your sound driver. Or you might as well re-install your Operating System (Windows 8).

Hi,
This is a very common problem that usually occurs when you plug in sound devices into your laptop and there can be a few reasons for the occurrence of such problem.

The problem can be caused because,
1. The external device somehow gave some unexpected response to the driver and corrupted the driver.
2. The device damaged your hardware.

For the solution,
1. Open your device manager and try updating the driver for the device that is causing the problem.
2. If it is still malfunctioning then from the device manager uninstall the driver then reinstall it.

3. In case the problem is still not resolved then you'll have to get the hardware checked.

Hope you got your answer! 🙂

Right click on My Computer and then go to the manage icon, select device manager by moving your mouse to device manager folder as shown in the image, from system tools, update your sound drivers from sound, video and game controller and also universal serial bus controller.

This will resolve sound system problem.
