Hi, Mega Joe,
Try this,
1. Uninstall all and remove all sound drivers.
2. Reboot the system and go to windows update. Disable automatic download and install. Otherwise it will get privies driver setting automatically.
3. Go to the Asus download page(http://support.asus.com/download/Options.aspx?SLanguage=en&type=1) type P5PE-VM at Model Name Search and search. (Maybe it will redirect to another search page, just click search again) . Click P5PE-VM and select OS windows xp, download SoundMax driver.
4. Extract it and select setup.exe. Right click, go properties and make it as windows xp compatible. After running that setup file and reboot.
Do not update the driver from device manage.
Good luck.
Hallo Mega,
Since you did an upgrade from windows XP to windows 7, you will also need to make sure that you have updated the sound drivers on your computer. Here is how you will do it:
