If speaker is having trouble then there is something wrong with the sound card. It process an audio signal unto the sound card and process it back to the speaker, then speaker will create sounds.

On the Device Manager, right click My computer and Properties, Under Hardware tab this open the list of hardware installed. Check the sound card status, this can be noticed so easily once an icon has yellow icon with exclamation point.

This means, the sound card needed an updated driver installed, insert the CD driver to get this fully functioning.

You can also use different slots at the back of your computer, that can be used with external speakers, microphones and any devices that uses sound card. If this device(internal speaker) can't be fix.

Audio options in Control Panel should not be in mute mode. Speaker's volume has to be in full swing and settings needed for speakers.
