In order for you to stop the constant updates being done by your sophos antivirus, you can check out the antivirus settings.

I am sure that there is a way to stop this anti virus from constantly updating, you can check your antivirus settings/configuration/options/so that you can choose to disable live updates or at least make an schedule for the sophos anti virus to do its update maybe once a week or depending on what your computer needs.

And you can choose a longer period of time to have an update not every twenty minutes or less, its really annoying if your doing something else and then you have to stop because of this sophos antivirus update.

If you cant take it anymore you can always have the option to change your antivirus programs with a new antivirus that doesn’t check for updates every minutes.

You can try to go to the software settings to see if where you can adjust the proper settings suited for your computer systems.

I’m not sure if that’s a good idea. Since it’s an antivirus, it relies on the updates coming from its server for its virus and spam detection capabilities. But if the constant updating already annoys you and makes your system slow because of background processes created by the update, I’m sure there is a way of temporary disabling it or perhaps permanently disabling it just like what I did with my Norton Internet Security. There’s no problem disabling its update function as long as you update your antivirus at least once or twice a week.

There is always an option in the antivirus to disable its update function. Open your antivirus then go to settings. Check all the tabs available if it includes an option to disable the update function. If you found it, simply disable it. After successfully disabling the update function of your antivirus, make sure to update it manually every week.
