Hello Michael,

In the specifications of Sony Xperia Z3, it is mentioned that it has IP 65 and IP 68 rating.

Let me explain about this rating first. IP stands for Intrusion Protection. The two digit XY mean different things. X stands for particle intrusion. Y stands for moisture intrusion. X varies from 0-6 with 6 meaning totally dust proof. Y varies from 0-8 with 8 meaning it can sustain continuous immersion up to a depth of 3 meters.

So a phone with IP 65 rating can withstand a water nozzle of 6.3 mm from all sides, whereas IP 68 rating means it can bear prolonged submersion of more than 1 meter. Despite the ratings and the advertisements you need to consider them with a pinch of salt.
