Sony VGN-CR320E ‘s OS not detected after running Hitman Pro

I was running Hitman Pro on my Sony Vaio laptop, shut the computer down and when I turned it back on, it will no longer boot and goes straight to recovery options menu. It seems that the C drive is no longer recognized, I get a message that states that the OS is not detected on the drive and therefore cannot boot to Windows. What should I do now?

Hello Dawn

In all probability, your Master Boot Record must have been overwritten, In this case the entire installation goes bad and boot disk is not recognized.

To repair this you need to have the Windows installation disk.

Insert the installation CD and boot your system.

Press F8 while booting to go to the Windows Recovery Menu.

Click on Advance Recovery options.

In this menu click on Automatic repair.

Thereafter go to Command Prompt. And type the following commands :

            bootrec /RebuildBcd

            bootrec /fixMbr

            bootrec /fixboot

             Exit

Reboot the system. Alternatively you could use partition tools to repair boot sectors.

This should have solved the problem.

If when booting the computer you receive an error saying it can’t find an operating system to boot, turn off your computer then wait about ten to twenty seconds (10 – 20 seconds) or maybe a minute. After this, turn the computer back on again then boot the computer using the last known good configuration option.

Press F8 before the Windows logo appears then select “Last known good configuration” and then hit Enter. This is the easiest remedy if you have a problem booting your computer. If this doesn’t work and the problem continues, just format the hard drive and install a fresh copy of Microsoft Windows.

If you have files to recover on your hard drive, you need to bring it to a computer shop to have them transfer the files to another drive.
