I started with Java for dummies.
I found that I could understand what was explained to me.
I got it from my local library. I too didn't know anything about programming, but this book taught me the basics.
This book is a revised version of the original. This is because a lot has changed since the first one came out.
You can order it from dummies.com store it is called Java for dummies 3rd edition.
Have fun with this book you will enjoy it.
I have found another one for you on Amazon. Great reviews for this book. It was written by a programmer without the technical jargon it is called "Beginning Java" by Ivor Horton @ $10.23.
