I have a network that I would like to extend. Can I separate the wireless and cabled part of the network ? I have never attempted anything like this before and I am not sure if this can be done. I want an expert's advice.

In order to make a wired and wireless separation of the network, and notwithstanding the level of security you’re planning for both or whether one connection is allowed to seep in to the other, the best course of action is to have two routers where one of them is being used as a guest.

In this way you can configure one connection as being LAN and the other one as wireless. You should disable the wireless router’s LAN so it doesn’t create any conflict.
