Screen brightness control laptop Acer Aspire 7741Z

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my new laptop Acer Aspire 7741Z – 4643 as the video does not work under 10.10 version.

Every thing works well except the screen brightness control even though the screen is always at maximum brightness.

How do I get it to work?

Here is some important observation about screen brightness control in Ubuntu 10.04 that you are using.

You can be able to alter the screen backlighting brightness using the standard keyboard combination on the laptop just like it is done when you are using Windows.

In case the above process fails to work, then try the following:

  • You will need to right- click a blank spot on the bar running across the top of the screen,
  • And then you will select Add to Panel from the menu that will appear next.
  • You will then check the list that appears, and from there select Brightness Applet.
  • Next you will click the ADD button such that a new icon that will be added,  and when it is  clicked, it presents a slider that will let you alter the degree of backlighting as you wish.

Hi CyberScout, I have read your issue about your new Acer Aspire laptop on the error of the brightness of the screen. You can try to restart you laptop first. One solution to your problem is the Windows and have you checked it already?

If so, since it is a new laptop the video card doesn’t need any repairing or even getting the latest driver on that as well.

If the problem still persists after, try this work around, on the Keyboard look for Fn and F5 or F6 you can try to control the brightness if will work properly now.
