Scanner no longer works when upgraded by new drivers

I have been using a film scanner connected to the USB port of my computer for several months. I heard that the manufacturer has released new drivers for the scanner that allow it to make multiple passes of a single negative and generate a higher resolution digital image. I downloaded the drivers from the vendor's website, installed them using the Update Hardware Wizard, and rebooted when prompted. Now the scanner no longer works.

I don't want to go for "Roll Back Driver" as I want to use the updated features of the scanner. So what is the best and easiest way to resolve this problem?

Drivers are operating systems that act as middlemen to the your devices that is hardware and your hierarchy while installing any hardware you should ensure it marches with your adapter for example if it is a SCSI then the installation should also be a SCSI. Restart after plugging in the USB if it is a 98 operating system it will install the driver for you.

For the other operating system follow the on screen instructions, While downloading ensure you check the type of file if it is a single file it should be an executable file this means you can straight download and install.

Others are non executable that means they are compressed so to install you must first uncompressed before installation. Check these things and I am sure you will not have a problem.

Because of the driver update you did the scanner totally crashed. Maybe during the driver update when the process is about to uninstall the previously installed driver it encountered a problem when removing a registered component of the scanner.

Uninstall the scanner’s driver and completely removes the scanner from the device manager. Run a disk check afterwards. I’m sure there is really a problem in the hard drive’s file structure because of the failed driver update that caused the scanner to no longer function.

  1. Right click on drive C and then select Properties.
  2. Click Tools tab.
  3. Click Check Now.
  4. Check Automatically fix file system errors and then hit Start.

After the disk check plug again the scanner to the computer, at this point the computer will now detect the attached device. Run the newly downloaded driver to install the scanner. Test the scanner afterwards if it is working fine already.
