Hi guys,

I'm trying to root Android Xperia x8 from 2.1 to 2.3 which is much stable via CynogenMode.

If you are sure about the steps, please take me through if possible.

Thank you.

Hello there,

Before we start the process, here are the item what you'll go to download:

1. Android 2.3 Gingerbread ROM software.

2. xRecovery

Note: before you install Gingerbread on your Smartphone, it is advisable to have a back up on your phone to keep your files and other data settings of your phone. And also, make sure you have already rooted your X8 with xRecovery that is installed on your phone or PC.

Warning: This method is Do As Your Own Risk!

Here's how to upgrade your device:

1. You must create a new folder on your desktop and rename it as you desired. For example: ABC

2. Move your downloaded Android Froyo Custom ROM to the ABC folder.

3. Your Custom ROM is a RAR archive and it have to extract using WinRAR.

4. To extract the Custom ROM, just Right Click your mouse button on the file and click on Extract Here.

5. It will be extracted and your Android Gingerbread Custom ROM's folder will be created.

6. Connect your X8 phone with your PC with your USB cord.

7. Select now Open Folder to view files in the Autoplay box then, click OK.

8. Go to your backup files folder which is present inside xRecovery folder (xRecovery > backup).

9. Copy your Android Gingerbread Custom ROM's folder to backup folder from the folder ABC.

10. If you do, disconnect your X8 phone from your computer.

11. Switch off your device and wait for 5 or 6 seconds.

12. Now switch on your device again and as soon your device logo (Sony Ericsson) appears on your screen, start pressing the back key continuously.

13. This process will take you to the xRecovery menu (this will take effect only if you have already installed xRecovery on your device).

14. Select Backup and Restore in the xRecovery menu.

15. In this process, you will see 2 files:

  • The backup of your device.
  • Android Froyo Custom ROM.

16. Then select Android Gingerbread Custom ROM file.

17. Then it will ask you Are you Sure then select Yes – Restore.

18. Then your Android Gingerbread on your device will start installing. It will take a couple of minutes so, be patient.

19. Right after 5 or 6 minutes of waiting, the installation gets completed and a menu will appear in front of you. Select Reboot from that menu and press Enter. Your device will reboot and you will see the effect.

Congratulations! Now your device is using Android OS v. 2.3 Gingerbread!
