This error popups when you are running your windows in Safe mode or .msi file not correctly installed. It also occurs when the Windows Installer files are missing or corrupt.

Resolution:

Method1

1. Click on Start and search for a run.

2. Type ‘msiexec/unregister’

3. Type ‘msiexec/reregister’.

Method2

1. Click on Start menu.

2. Then search for “Services.msc.”

3. Choose Windows Installer.

4. Ensure that the startup type of Windows Installer is manual.

5. Hit on start.

6. Click OK.

That’s an error from the Windows Installer so that means you are installing something on your computer. You may receive this error on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 when installing an application. The problem can also happen when you try to uninstall an application.

The error message reads something like “The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.” One possible cause is the Windows Installer itself. Its files are probably missing or damaged.

Another possible cause of the error is when you incorrectly install an application using the MSI file (*.msi) instead of the setup file (setup.exe). To fix the problem, try reinstalling the Windows Installer. Download Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable and install it on your computer.

If you cannot upgrade the Windows Installer, go to Windows Installer service could not be accessed and read the instructions how to reinstall the Windows Installer.
