Check the below steps to resolve this issue:

  1. Search for Scanners in the Windows System and click on “View scanners and cameras.”
  2. If it shows the device, then the reason is in the software.

If it does not, then there is some problem in the system.

  1. To uninstall the software, you can use Revo Uninstaller.
  2. Download the latest version of the software from the Canon Website.
  3. Use the software.

If you have a Canon PIXMA MP287 inkjet printer and scanner and the scanner is not working, make sure you already installed its driver. The machine will not work if you do not install the driver or the printer software. To install the driver, download MP280 series MP Driver 1.03.

Canon PIXMA MP287 inkjet printer and scanner

It supports Windows XP Service Pack 2 or higher 32-bit only, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10 both 32-bit and 64-bit. 64-bit Microsoft Windows XP is not supported. This driver should allow your computer to recognize the printer scanner.

If you don’t install this, your computer can only detect the machine but will not be able to recognize it because there is no program that will identify it on the system. But with or without this software, your computer should still be able to detect the printer.

On the other hand, if your computer cannot even detect the device, make sure the USB cable connected to the computer is properly inserted. If it doesn’t work and cannot be detected on one USB port, try using all the available ports on the computer. If still nothing happens, try using a different USB cable that works. You can use the USB cable from other printers.

If the problem continues and your computer cannot detect the printer, you should bring your Canon printer to a Canon servicing center to service it.
