Obviously you can install Debian into your cobalt microserver. Make sure that you have the minimum requirement I given below. You don't said about your debian's version. If you want to run Debian 6.0 (squeeze) on a Cobalt micro server, you need to fulfill this requirement-

1. A MIPS based cobalt machine (RaQ1, Qube2, RaQ2, Gateway Microserver). It must have atleast 48MB memory. Keep it in mind that the Qube 2700 (Qube 1) is not supported.

2. Another machine (called the server from now on) on which you can install an NFS and a DHCP server.

3. An Internet connection to which your Cobalt machine is connected.

It's the minimum requirement. If you want to detailed process of installing Debian you may visit here- https://www.debian.org/releases/stable/mips/

Here you can find out a perfect way to install it.

Hope this all will work.

Thanks.
