In its simplest sense, no, you cannot use Firefox or any other internet browsers for your chromebook at the moment. This is because Chromebook runs on the Chrome operating system which is already an internet browser. The chrome operating system gets its applications online, thus looking like a legit, true operating system but in reality it is a web browser that only can install web applications. So in other words, you cannot install an internet browser like Firefox into it because it is already an internet browser.

But here’s the interesting part: Since Chromebook uses Chrome, an internet browser, it means that it is installed on something. And it is based on Linux. If you have the technical know-how to properly access the terminal (Linux’ command line interface) and know the commands, you can “discreetly” install Firefox. But doing so will place your Firefox browser only side-by-side with the Chrome operating system, still not inside it.
Hope this helps!

I’m not sure either if you can also install and use other web browsers like Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox with Chromebook because in general sense, the actual Chromebook computer is really a giant web browser getting its resources directly from the web although it allows offline programs to be installed locally. Chromebook’s already integrated with Google Chrome web browser and runs on Google Chrome OS for its operating system.

The Google Chrome OS is the kind of operating system that utilizes the Linux kernel together with the Google Web browser and is integrated with a media player. If you are still having a hard time putting it together, think of it as a normal web browser inside a box. It has a very limited offline capability so you really need to have an active internet connection all the time. According to Google, Chromebook is capable of booting in just eight seconds although it may vary depending on the hardware installed.

Here is one example of Chromebook, the Samsung Chromebook.
